Collection Calculator upgrades to HTTPS

25 July 2017

Collection Calculator has upgraded to an encrypted data protocol that is often used to protect highly confidential online transactions, such as online banking.

The Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) certification means that wargamers putting personal details on Collection Calculator can be confident the connection is secure.

The difference you will see on the website is that our address has changed from http// to https//. The additional “S” at the end stands for “Secure” and means all communications between you and Collection Calculator are encrypted.

Standard HTTP is the underlying protocol that is used by the World Wide Web. The protocol defines how messages are formatted and transmitted between computers, and what actions web servers and browsers should take in response to various commands that are sent to between them.

When you enter an URL into your browser, this action transmits an HTTP command to the web server directing it to fetch and transmit the requested web page. These communications are in “plain text” and can be read by any hacker that manages to break into the connection between your browser and the website.

We have therefore decided to upgrade to a HTTPS connection. This means that even if somebody managed to break into the connection, they would not be able decrypt any of the data which passes between us.

We have done this so that you can be confident information you share with us is secure. We understand that when we are asking you for details about yourself you need to confident that we take your security seriously.

HTTPS is used to protect transmitted data from eavesdropping. It is the default protocol for conducting financial transactions on the web, and can protect a website's users from censorship by a government or an ISP.

Now we didn’t know that. Enjoy the site in safety!
