Yet another project

28 October 2022

Looking at the re-discovered figures now and I can see my fair hands painted them to a satisfactory standard; I also hand-painted the flags. I can't see to do this nowadays, but they are still looking good.

I know that I should have kept them more neatly, but they have moved house with us, been kept in the loft for years, and gradually moved to the back of the pile.

Lets get back to the project. I knew we had to rebase them, so I got my handy craft knife, cutters and files and began cutting off the figures from the old bases. I was cautious about this process with my now very old Heroics and Ros collection.

As you can see, I have begun the progress; with the blade in my hand and working its magic; I am progressing well. And apart from one cut on my thumb in the cutting process, it has gone very well.

The factory approach of the knife, cut, and file has proved its worth yet again. These 22 figures on six bases will provide two brigades of Confederates for one of Longstreet's Divisions.

After thinking about things and the scales for the project, I am going with Warbases 80mm X 50mm x 3mm bases for the troops and 30mm x 20mm x 3mm for the artillery and the officers and any detached units. The bases are now painted in my go-to colour of GW's Loren Forest, which I think is no longer available….

So now I have painted and finished the bases, I have begun to mount the troops on the bases. As seen here are Longstreet's and Reynold's Corps at Gettysburg. Each base here can be up to 5,000 men strong each skirmisher on the base show how many brigades are on the base, and the base also has its divisional officer. Any local divisional artillery resources are included in the factors of the base. Corps Artillery has its base, as do Corps Leaders.

So, look at Longstreet's 1st Corp at the battle of Gettysburg, which is almost 21,000 strong.

1st Corps - Lieutenant General James Longstreet
strength: 20,700 men, 87 guns suffering the following casualties:
1,580 killed, 4,100 wounded, 1,980+ missing, 7,660 total
