The Thracians

09 July 2017

light infantry mercenaries the Thracians tended towards being peltasts, javelin men, archers or slingers. The troops would have little armour apart from possibly scavenged headgear. Shields were generally the small pelta type and some of the light infantry would carry a dagger or sword as a sidearm.

As such the Thracian infantry were primarily used for skirmishing, they were also used for protecting the flanks of other larger formations by charging in support of them. They protected the phalanxes or some of the heavier cavalry units by trying to hamstring opposing horse. Thracians also used the rhomphaia with a shield and/or Javelin.

Once I have fully painted and based this line of Thracian Peltasts the collection calculator says that this base is going to worth about £5.40

Method

1 base, 3 figures in loosely based, unpainted and ready to go. No armour here so it a mix of leathers, cloths and weapons. They did not take long actually and the weather helped in the drying process between coats of paint. I tried to give some individual look here rather than a uniform approach. Took a bit longer as I went and touched up quite a bit I was a bit slapdash a points. I have since purchased some more brushes for the finer details to prevent this. Basing is getting faster as I get better at it too. I am now getting nearer the pike unit, a bit nervous..
