Were they mad fighting in nude, indeed.

Galatians or Gauls were Celts who had migrated south across the plains of the Danube to settle in Asia Minor.

They were particularly known for their fervour in combat as well as showing a remarkable constitution and complete lack of concern when they were wounded in battle. On top of this they had a healthy contempt for wearing armour and on occasions fought in the nude.

Galatians Warbands were ferocious and Roman soldiers had a rather healthy respect for them when in combat. As mercenaries they were recorded as fighting alongside the Seleucids against Rome and were a common site in the Seleucid army as Elite unit as well.

Once I have fully painted and based this line of Romans the collection calculator says that this base is going to worth about £7.20.

Galatians (4Wb - Warband)

Method

1 base, 4 infantry figures in close order. I approached this with a fair amount of trepidation, like the Thracians, there was no uniform way of painting these guys. I had to paint blocks of colours across the figures, at different points during the paint job.

I did plenty of going back and forth, adding colours later on and on each figure. The hair, the beards the weapons and trousers were all different on each figure. I have gone for the detail on these to make them look less uniform.

The new brushes helped on these one too. I was able to put in the beards better too.
