Fourteen Bases, Six Mounted Figures and Forty Seven Figures. After all this time I can now properly reflect and say that I really enjoyed this process.

I found that painting was a struggle at first - 22 years is long time to be not painting figures. However as I went through the bases and figures I found that it became easier for me. Whether or not they are good is a question I will need you guys to answer. I think they are okay and I am proud of the little fellows, but that is not the acid test of how good they are.

I found a few techniques that I liked for painting, such as washing with diluted paints. I also need to practice with dry brushing too. I must admit that I am not one for super-smart, impeccably turned out soldiers with clean uniforms. I always like my troops to look like they are on a campaign and have been marching about, camping away from home and working hard.

Anyway that's what I have tried to represent and it looks like I am better than I thought, although perhaps not as good as I remember.  But as I get more confident I can try more stuff.

Below are the original troops unpainted and based.

This lot turned into the following:

To start my painting I bought:

4 Paint Pots

x £2.50 = £10.00
1 Black Washx £4.49 = £4.49
Polybian Roman Army II/33 = £18.50
Roman Extra Bases 4xBases = £10.90
I spent in total £43.89

After Painting, this is what they might be worth according to collectioncalculator :

Roman Army £112.74
Total Worth £112.74
Minus Costs £43.89
Difference £68.85

Having invested £43.89 to begin painting my my army, I was pleased to find out that my efforts have paid off. Even if I don’t sell them I know what they are worth and how much it will cost to replace them. Most pleasing of all is that my efforts painting them is actually worth something.

Come on you Selucids - I can't wait!
