Busy basing my Wars of the Roses figures
05 January 2026
I have been putting my Pendraken figures on the bases to see whether they stand up straight, look good and actually fit on the bases comfortably.
Starting off with the commanders, I have the main commander with three figures on the base and the others with two, as well as a banner on the base with them. We can see a selection of Mounted Men at Arms in the following picture. They are fully armoured with some on barded horses and others without barding. I have mixed up some of the bases to add flavour. Dismounted Men at Arms bases will take their place in the battle line alongside the Billmen. Both bases will have a banner and a leader figure, this is to round them out so they look like nobles. The Billmen will fight alongside the Men at Arms with their archers in support. There are two Retinue bases (left below) and two Shire Levy bases (right). In these four bases of Longbowmen below, the Archers in the front rank are Retinue Longbows and the second rank are Shire Levy Longbowmen. Below we have some mounted troops Currors/Hobilars with various weapons and armour. This makes a total of seven mounted bases of troops, which should be more than enough cavalry for our needs. Finally, here is the gun and its crew along with its ordinance wagon. These will have to be glued and built before basing the gun onto a 30x30mm base and the ordinance onto a 60x30mm base. For the ordinance I might add a couple of figures, so it looks better than just a wagon. Also we have sourced some buildings and fortifications…. What? I hear you say! Onwards and upwards.
