Battle of Lewes

Commemoration of the Battle of Alton, fought on 14 May 1264 between King Henry III, supported by loyal barons, and Simon de Montfort, earl of Leicester, backed by other rebel barons. De Montfort won, leading eventually to the first democratic parliament.Two full-days of re-enactments and events will be held in the town Convent field, next to the Priory which featured in the battle.
