Could be time to go shopping. . .

Now that I have had time to work on my generic building stock and have roughly enough painted to do Charlestown, I only need to finish off a few more aesthetic additions and we are done for the Bunker Hill town.

So I felt I had time to finish of the maps for the Cropredy Bridge 1644 game. Now I am not claiming these draft maps are super accurate or to scale but they do fit the game.

The game will be across three maps and cover three main areas of the battle. Map 1 - is the Hays Bridge area and sees Lt Gen Middleton attack King Charles in the rear of the Van.

Map 2 - is Lord Cleveland attacking Wemys who has ventures across Cropredy Bridge.

Map 3 - is Lord Northampton defending the Slat Mill Ford against Sir William Waller.

This means that units will be able to move between boards and attach themselves to the various forces that may or may not need support. This is a return to the Little Bighorn style of Rules for gaming battles, where the individual commanders can be selfish, supportive or neither of those things. It all depends on cooperation or lack of it.

While I was making the maps I realised that my stock of building was became woefully short. I had four villages and two towns to replicate - so it was back to buying more buildings. Oh!  And another two bridges that I also need.

So I went into our Directory of traders on this website and thank god for Leven Miniatures who are still working through lockdown and can supply the buildings for my growing stock.

Not sure it will be enough…. So I may be returning soon to https://www.levenminiatures.co.uk/

I then realised I had gone nuts with the rivers on the boards, so I had only one option - back to Fat Franks www.ebay.co.uk/str/fatfrankswargaming for their amazing 6mm river sections.

I might need some more, but I will need to practice the layout first.

I will need to paint in a ford on one of the sections to represent Slat Mill Ford on board three.

Then I also saw that I was putting in a lot of roads, I have some, so I added to my order for more roads as well as rivers.

The roads will see me through on the test of the layout, after the social distancing restrictions are lifted.

The only thing I think I will need is more hills. I think I will be able to order them bespoke from Kallistra.  https://www.kallistra.co.uk/index.php

But that’s another blog.
